History
Equity was founded by Mrs. Bonita Hedrick Justice in 1988 under the name of “The Accelerated Learning Center”. The name was changed to Equity American School in 1994.

Structure
Equity American School offers classes from pre-Kinder to twelfth grade. The school is led by a director and assistant director and is divided into the Elementary School (pre-Kinder through Sixth grades) and Upper School (Seventh through Twelfth grades). The Elementary and Upper Schools are each led by their own principal.
Faculty
Equity School boasts an excellent and stable Elementary and Upper School faculty. Our faculty have an average of six years teaching at the school.
College Preparation
Equity School provides a fast-paced, college preparatory education following a United States Curriculum featuring:
- A strong college preparatory curriculum that
- Focuses on reading, writing,and mathematics
- Foreign language training
- And includes orchestra
- High academic success in college placement of our graduating seniors
- Graduating students that perform above the average in standardized college placement exams (ACT and SAT)

Average Class Size
The average class size at Equity American School is 9 students per class (as of September 2022). This small class size allows us to be flexible enough to accommodate personalized learning needs of our students.
Special Education Needs
Equity’s small class sizes allow our teachers to accommodate a variety of learning needs, and Equity has successfully integrated students with many learning disabilities. However, we are not a special education school and our teachers do not have formal special education training. In general we accept only three students per grade level with special learning needs. We also ask that siblings of students with special needs enroll at Equity to help the special needs sibling transition to the school. For further information please contact us.

Common Learning Resources
English Language
Equity has a 100% English language policy, and courses are primarily given in English. However, we have frequently enrolled students with little English proficiency.
- pre-Kinder to First grade focuses, among other things, on teaching children English, and classes contain a mix of children with varying English speaking abilities
- The Foreign Language department offers courses in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in both the Elementary and Upper Schools to aid students in the development of their English language skills
- The Foreign Language department offers courses to help prepare students for the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) required for application to many universities in the United States
Reading Skills
- The Foreign Language department offers courses in Reading Reinforcement (RR) to students in the Elementary school that need help in developing reading skills
Mathematics
- The Upper School curriculum includes Auxiliary Math, a specialized math section with very small courses sizes offering one on one help for students that struggle in Math
Tutoring
The average class size at Equity American School is 9 students per class (as of September 2022). This small class size allows us to be flexible enough to accommodate personalized learning needs of our students
- After school tutoring is available from the Elementary and Upper School faculties on an individual basis
- Due to their time commitments, faculty are not obligated to provide tutoring services
- Tutoring by Upper School faculty requires a direct, individually negotiated payment to the faculty member
