History

Equity was founded by Mrs. Bonita Hedrick Justice in 1988 under the name of “The Accelerated Learning Center”.  The name was changed to Equity American School in 1994.

Fast Facts

Structure

Equity American School offers classes from pre-Kinder to twelfth grade.  The school is led by a director and assistant director and is divided into the Elementary School (pre-Kinder through Sixth grades) and Upper School (Seventh through Twelfth grades).  The Elementary and Upper Schools are each led by their own principal.

Faculty

Equity School boasts an excellent and stable Elementary and Upper School faculty.  Our faculty have an average of six years teaching at the school.

Average Class Size

The average class size at Equity American School is 9 students per class (as of September 2022).  This small class size allows us to be flexible enough to accommodate personalized learning needs of our students.

Special Education Needs

Equity’s small class sizes allow our teachers to accommodate a variety of learning needs, and Equity has successfully integrated students with many learning disabilities.  However, we are not a special education school and our teachers do not have formal special education training.  In general we accept only three students per grade level with special learning needs.  We also ask that siblings of students with special needs enroll at Equity to help the special needs sibling transition to the school.
