One of the aspects that makes Equity unique is that students are required to take orchestra. Children begin learning violin at first grade and may switch to other instruments as needed starting fourth grade. Music education develops teamwork and collaboration, requires students to learn to read and interpret musical notation, and develops creativity. Orchestra also plays a critical role in the acceptance rate of our graduates as universities begin to rely less heavily on standardized test scores and consider other aspects in an applicant’s educational and personal background, including musical training.
The Equity American School Orchestra prepares two concerts a year, Music in the Air in December and the Spring Program at the end of April as part of our cultural activities.
